Portfolio:Kotex Young - Kita Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality – by definition – involves mixing real world video with computer graphics in a real-time and intractable manner. As this definition perfectly fits to our previous efforts in the music video (combining real footage with 3D animation); we decided to implement AR for our Kita on a different medium: Print & Web. In addition to opening new horizons in mixed media and removing barriers between print and web; this is the first commercial Augmented Reality project done completely in Flash (without any extra plug-in) as far as we know.

Our translation is very simple and elegant. Either use the print ad or alternatively print a copy of the page with the visual code (black square in the middle of the page). Copy says “it’s magic!!” and illustrates how to place the page in front of the webcam and highlights best conditions for better performance (such as lower light in the room, fixing the paper – possibly on the table to avoid vibrations, etc.) which you might need while judging it. You might also play with it, turn it, etc. the way you like

How it works?
1) Print the ad in the first place from http://www.kotexyoung.com/sihir/print.pdf. It is in 300 dpi printable PDF format.
2) Enter to the web page http://www.kotexyoung.com/sihir/and open your webcam.
3) Show the print ad to your webcam, while keeping the square in the middle visible in the video and see Kita dancing on it! You might play and interact with it... As you move the paper, Kita stays always on ;)
